- Ablation test
- Removing one element from a working prompt to find out what it was contributing.
- Falloff
- How quickly light gets weaker as it travels away from its source.
- Fibre-based paper
- Traditional photographic paper with deep blacks, used for museum prints.
- Grazing light
- Light that skims almost parallel to a surface, so every bump throws a small shadow.
- Orthochromatic film
- Film that does not see red: skin renders darker, lips very dark, freckles stronger.
- Pastiche
- Copying the surface of another artist's style without their reasons.
- Push
- Shooting film as if it were more sensitive and developing it longer: more grain, more contrast.
- Rebate
- The clear border of a film strip where brand names and frame numbers are printed.
